I'm starting to use TFS 2010 and I'm not able to install Light Weight Scrum process, so TFS 2010 doesn't work with Light Weight Scrum process v2.1.

I extended the values of the complexity of the scrum user story template with the values 0, 20, 40 ,100. Now the values do not appear in an ascending order in team explorer anymore. The sorting ist now: 0, 1, 100, 13, 2, 20,.... I guess the reason is the data type string of the complexity. But before extending there was no problem with the sorting, though the data type was the same.

In the template everything seems to be ok:

Hello,

I'm new to TFS and agile processes. as I'm trying to install this process template, I have a question. Should this be installed in both the following servers ?

1) server where TFS 2008 is installed
2) client development machines where only team explorer and VS 2008 is installed.

I'm not aware of the set up here as I just joined this company. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

I am getting the error, which says Global list 'Synchronization States' does not exist in this database. I am not able to understand, what I am doing wrong as there is not file with the download of software. Here is the log from installation:

We use one TFS project per product that we ship. Each product will (hopefully!) have multiple releases over the course of its lifetime. We set things up thusly:

Source control - Trunk (or Main) represents code which is currently shipping; development on new product releases is done in branches (with bugfixes for the shipped version being done in trunk - these changes can then be forward integrated into the development branches at regular intervals). When a release is ready to be shipped, the branch gets merged back into trunk, and we are done. This exploits the power of any source control system, being able to manage concurrent changes to the code. Developers only need to check out the branch that they are working on, without having to worry about trampling over code that is currently in production. If a release is killed, the branch can be abandoned or blown away as necessary, while trunk remains unharmed
Areas & Iterations - Areas are used to define particular units of functionality - the main consumer website, the backend administration system, externallly exposed web services etc. Iterations are then used to manage a product release, breaking up the release into one or more sprints; TFS is happy to allow as many concurrent product releases as you care to enter.

Frmo my experience, having multiple TFS projects to manage a single product causes too many mangement headaches, especially when it comes to reporting - the real beauty of TFS is its ability to report based on the data from all the areas of a project, but generally the reporting is limited to per-project. I don't doubt you could create some cross-project reporting, but being able to track the history of a product through all its releases using out-of-the-box reports is almost worth the price of admission to the world of TFS alone.

When a workitem is set to be active, why can't you then set it back to 'new' if the person subsequently decides to work on it later?

I am able to see and create other projects. I can even create projectes with the Scrum V2.1 template. Permsisions are not a problem as I have administrative rights in both environments. I did have some trouble with uploading the template on the TFS server, apparently the template name is case sensitive. I had to modify the template name in one of the config files to match the case on the SharePoint server. After I did that the template uploaded to the TFS server but I am still unable to create projects using the V1 template.

Are you able to use other Team Projects, or is this your first one? If you are able to see other team projects OK (In particular looking at Documents through Team Explorer) then it is likely to be a problem with the template (I guess) or your user permissions. If you can't then there is likely to be a more general problem with TFS integrating to WSS. In this case verify that the WSS url referenced by TFS is correct by looking at the values in the TFSIntegration database, tbl_service_interface table

In particular there are three rows with a name value of WssAdminService, BaseServerUrl, BaseSiteUrl - check the URL value in each row points to the correct WSS server and site and verify that you can browse the urls properly.

We are looking to introduce TFS and Scrum into our organisation to give us a slightly more structured approach to managing our product development process. I'm happy with Scrum as an approach, but get hung up on how we structure the TFS team projects. We are only a relatively small organisation, we have a single dev team of 4 people, augmented by a tester and a trainer for a sprint making a team of 6 (including the Scrum master). We have four key products that we develop and have independent product owners each maintaining a backlog for their own product.

I think that I'd like to have a single team project which I use on an ongoing basis so that I don't lose track over time of historical information about delivery. Having a single team project means that I can have one central source control history and work items that are available for historical reporting, but it does mean that the projects may become unwieldy so I can see the benefit of having a team project for a product release or even, possibly, a single product increment. I could also see the benefit of having a Team Project per product to manage Product Backlog and specifications etc, and then transferring work items and specification documents to the relevant place for a specific release or iteration after the sprint planning meeting.

What I would like to know is other peoples experience, what is a good balance to strike between compartmentalising the projects so that the development team is focussed on the current increment or release, and making the team projects easy to manage?

I am having trouble creating a project with the V1.0 template. I was able to upload the template without a problem but the project creation process fails. I am able to create projects with the default templates and the V2.1 template. I am running TFS 2008 and I have a MOSS 2007 Sharepoint environment. the error message is below
